The best sources of information are the British Orienteering Federation Fixtures List and the Scottish Orienteering Fixtures List. The BOF list is normally updated on a weekly basis and includes details of all events from Championships down to Colour Coded (now called District) events. The Scottish List is complied from the same database as the BOF list but also includes details of local events.
For details of smaller events near to Edinburgh see the East of Scotland Orienteering Association. Events take place on Saturday mornings in the autumn and spring and also on Wednesday evening in late spring and early summer.
There are various orienteering leagues:
South of Scotland Orienteering League (series of 9 Colour Coded (District) events from September to February
Scottish Orienteering League (series of 7 Badge (Regional) events from March to November)
UK Cup (league of races for elite runners)
FCC Cup (league of races for juniors aged 17 to 20)
Categories of events:
1 = Championships: British Champs and JK (Easter weekend event)
2 = National: series of 7 National Events throughout the UK
3 = Regional Event (was Badge Event): course based on ages, includes the Scottish O League events
4 = District Event (was Colour Coded Event): courses based on ability, includes the South of Scotland League
5 = Local Event: any other small event
